Main-Spessart: Only a few sand habitats left …

Dry, hot and poor in nutrients. Despite their harsh conditions, so-called sand habitats are important for plants and animals. In Main-Spessart, however, they only appear sporadically. The Main-Spessart Landscape Management Association has now mapped these sand habitats.

These include sand dunes, heaths and sand fields. There are still 30 such areas in the region. They form the habitat for numerous endangered animal and plant species. In the future, the landscape conservation association would like to strengthen and improve these habitats.
