Mahfud Expects Richard Eliezer’s Sentence Under 12 Years in Jail

Jakarta

Sentence trial Bharada Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu in the premeditated murder case of Brigadier Yosua Hutabarat, it will be held on February 15. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md hoped that Richard’s sentence would be under 12 years in prison or lighter than the prosecutor’s demands.

“Hopefully, I don’t know, Elizer will be sentenced half an hour in the future. But I hope he will step down from 12 (years),” said Mahfud in the Pondok Bambu area, East Jakarta, Monday (13/2/2023).

According to Mahfud, Richard had played an important role in uncovering the case of Brigadier Yosua’s death. He called the shoot-out narrative proven false thanks to a confession from Richard.

“Because of this, that was the initial scenario of this case that Eliezer shot Yosua because he was shot first and then shooting occurred. So, that scenario was maintained for a month from July 8 to August 8. What was the purpose? Eliezer appeared in court claiming to be the murderer because he was promised to be on SP3 “The SP3 was easy, ‘I killed because I was shot first’, resulting in a shootout. So he is free, this case is closed,” he said.

“But Eliezer bravely on the 8th dared to open up that this was a Sambo scenario, that this was murder, not shooting,” he continued.

Therefore, according to Mahfud, if Richard does not change the statement, the case will be closed. He hopes Richard gets justice.

“Therefore, we are waiting. Eliezer, hopefully now he will get justice. Of course, in my opinion, he is also punished, because he is the perpetrator, but without him this case will not change,” he said.

The South Jakarta District Court will hold a sentencing hearing in the premeditated murder case against Brigadier N Yosua and the defendant Bharada Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu. The trial is scheduled to be held on February 15.

“The assembly will come to make a decision. We will read the verdict on February 15,” said chief judge Wahyu Iman Santoso in a duplic agenda hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, Thursday (2/2).
