The MagSafe external battery still hides secrets. After its surprise presentation last week by Apple, we learned that the one that replaces the Smart Battery Case can also be recharged by an iPhone 12. A reverse recharge which is therefore not the only surprise. This accessory composed of Qi coil is also capable of recharging AirPods, as demonstrated by Steven Russel via Twitter. A wireless charger like any other
This is not a fluke since the Cupertino company had already explained that its magnetic battery could recharge other Qi devices as evidenced by dossier communicated to the FCC. You can charge AirPods, an Apple Watch and even other phones up to 5 Watts, even if the battery is connected. In the case of an iPhone 12, it is also 5 W wireless but 15 W with the cable.
The only catch is that AirPods aren’t magnetized, but the Apple Watch is. It will therefore be necessary to lay the case flat, as on a conventional Qi charger. What if Apple added a MagSafe on its next AirPods? AirPods 3 are due in return, and AirPods Pro 2 are expected to arrive in 2022 with health sensors.
A physical purchase possible
Finally, the MagSafe battery is now recoverable in Apple Store since this morning. Still at 109 €, otherwise there are third-party models at half price on Amazon.
