At the end of April, the designer of augmented reality glasses Magic Leap announced the dismissal of part of its workforce, while the situation of other employees had become uncertain.
Today, we learn that the company would have managed to raise $ 350 million. The information comes from The Information, which indicates that the sum comes from old and new investors, and that it allows to cancel the planned redundancies in the remaining workforce. According to Gamasutra, Magic Leap executive director Rony Abovitz, sent a note to staff, explaining that the money will allow normal operations to continue and that more layoffs are no longer on the agenda.
The first wave of layoffs occurred in the heart of the health crisis, but many observers said the cuts were mainly due to major business failures. Indeed, the Magic Leap One, mixed reality glasses, had only sold 6000 copies, while Abovitz envisaged sales of more than 100,000 units.
