Madrid exceeds 15,000 deaths linked to the coronavirus | Madrid

At least 15,154 people have died in the Community of Madrid with coronaviruses or symptoms compatible with the disease, according to data from the regional government. The figure confirms the worst forecasts and only warns of what is to come: many of those deaths are being accounted for by the department of mortuary health, dependent on the Ministry of Health, which operates with death certificates, whose arrival takes some delay.

Thus, the latest balance of deaths in residences, sent on Tuesday night to the central government, reflects 5,876 deaths from covid (1,141) or compatible symptoms (4,735) since March 8 in the 710 centers that host the region to elderly, disabled, or mentally ill.

In parallel, the latest report on the situation of the pandemic in the region, published on Tuesday, details 8,420 deaths in hospitals; 834 addresses and 24 in other places, figures all of which will rise throughout this Wednesday, when all the data is updated.

The Community of Madrid has become the epicenter of the pandemic in Spain: it accumulates almost 68,000 positives in tests to detect the disease. Therefore, the regional executive is finalizing with little optimism the plan with which it wants to convince the central government that Madrid is ready to go to phase 1 of the de-escalation.

To facilitate the approval of this transition, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the president of Madrid, has decided to leave installed in Ifema all the pipes that would allow the field hospital to be reactivated quickly, or to renew until December the contracts of the more than 8,000 health workers hired as reinforcement to face the peak of the crisis.

However, the level of occupancy of intensive care beds (640) makes it difficult for Madrid to enter the next phase at the same rate as the rest of the regions.
