French President Emmanuel Macron believes representatives of Russia should be allowed into the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Macron’s words were quoted by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach at a press conference following the executive committee meeting.
“Macron said that sport should not be politicized and stressed that representatives of all countries, including those at war, should participate in the 2024 Olympics and 2024 Paralympics,” Bach said.
The IOC chief also recalled the G20 summit in Indonesia, where he explained his position on neutrality.
“The head of the G20, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, supported the idea of political neutrality of sport and stressed the unifying power of the Olympics and Paralympics,” Bach said.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine said that some leaders of European states, which are trying to become mediators in negotiations with Russia, he offered our state to make concessions in matters of sovereignty.
Volodymyr Zelensky said they were doing wrong and Ukrainians would not give up their territories to “save face” to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
