Today’s Apple event was filled with news. Among other things, the new Mac Studio, which is a computer with a form factor Apple has not given up on before. A form factor that is a bit reminiscent of the Mac Mini if it had taken steroids.
Apple’s brand new system circuit M1 Ultra will find his home inside Mac Studio. This is a new work computer whose form factor is a bit reminiscent of a Mac Mini someone has chosen to build a couple of floors on.
A larger device often leads to the hope of more connections and here Apple has definitely not been lazy. Mac Studio comes with four Thunderbolt 4 ports, 10 Gb Ethernet, two USB-A, HDMI and a 3.5 mm high impedance headphone port. In the front we also see two USB-C and an SD card reader. If the computer is equipped with an M1 Ultra, these two front USB-C connections will also have Thunderbolt 4 compatibility.
Apple believes that the new computer SSD speeds will reach up to 7.4 GB / s and storage capacity will extend up to eight terabytes. Apple is usually a bit fuzzy when it comes to the performance of new devices under specific loads. However, the company believes that the new computer will beat the most high-performance computers Apple offers today. This should then apply to both Mac Studio with M1 Max and with M1 Ultra.
When performance is increased, it most often means that heat generation is also increased. This is not something Apple has forgotten and it looks like almost half of Mac Studio’s internal volume has been dedicated to the cooling solution. This consists of two radial fans that draw in cool air from the perforated bottom of the computer and pull it over the components before the heated air is then sent out through the rear panel.
Mac Studio is available to pre-book from today. The M1 Max model starts at $ 1,999 and if Apple’s new flagship M1 Ultra is desired, a price tag of at least $ 3,999 applies. The computer will begin shipping on March 18. The same day that Apple launches its new generation of iPad Air which now comes with an M1 circuit.
