For its new MacBook Pro at the end of 2016, Apple has not contented itself with making a clean sweep of the luminous logo on the hood, of the MagSafe and all the ports for the exclusive benefit of the USB-C (and the jack). To great despair from its creator and many Mac users, the typical boot sound has he too disappeared ! But fortunately, there is a small simple manipulation to find this startup sound, here on a 13-inch MacBook Pro with two T3 ports:
The instructions as described by @chaysegr consists in entering a line in a Terminal window:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
The Terminal will ask you to enter the password for your user account, then simply shut down the Mac … and restart it to hear that typical sound again.
To return to the “standard” behavior wanted by Apple, return to the Terminal with this line:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%01
It works perfectly, according to our tests. By the way, the macOS login screen is full of interesting and / or fun little tricks to know, we had echoed it here: Tips for customizing the macOS login screen.
