The 16th edition of the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, originally scheduled for 2021, has been postponed to September 2022, its organizers announced on Thursday. This decision was made due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The current international health situation considerably slows down the possibilities of residences and productions, the interactions between artistic projects and the economic world and collaborations with the associative fabric”, they explain in a press release.
“In this particular context”, they add, “this postponement is necessary in order to preserve the quality of the links maintained with the artists which made the reputation of the Lyon Biennale”. The previous edition of the Biennale (September 18, 2019 – January 5, 2020) had attracted nearly 274,000 visitors, according to the organizers.
