Olympique Lyon coach Rudi Garcia is happy with the way in which Memphis Depay made his comeback in an exhibition game on Wednesday after a long injury injury. The Frenchman saw that the Orange-international did what was expected of him.
Memphis has been sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury since mid-December and made his first minutes against amateur club US Port-Valais. The game ended in 12-0, thanks in part to four goals and four assists from Memphis.
“Although we played against amateurs, we took the game seriously, with respect for the opponent. It is great that Memphis is back. He reassured us; I saw no fear in his game,” said Garcia after the practice game.
“He also played defensively and was good in all areas, especially by playing simply. Port-Valais has dignifiedly opposed, for which I would like to thank them. We are very satisfied.”
The 26-year-old Memphis, who immediately wore the captaincy at Lyon, has worked hard in recent months to recover with the aim of reaching the European Championship with the Orange. However, the tournament was postponed by one year because of the corona virus.
Although the competition in France has ended, Lyon still has at least two important matches waiting. July 31 is the final of the Coupe de la Ligue against Paris Saint-Germain and on August 7 Juventus will be the opponent in the eighth finals of the Champions League. The first game was won 1-0 on February 26.
