Mexican first division club Deportivo Toluca had already prepared for the arrival of Luuk de Jong and the move was all but complete. Now the loan striker from FC Barcelona may face consequences.

Negotiations with Deportivo Toluca could spell trouble for Luuk de Jong. According to information from the Mexican television station TV Azteca, the 31-year-old declined a move to Deportivo Toluca after a few talks.

But apparently it won’t stay that way. According to the report, de Jong had signed a document providing for a move to Mexico. The case could soon end up at FIFA and jeopardize De Jong’s participation in the World Cup.

After a one-year loan, FC Barcelona decided not to exercise the purchase option agreed with FC Sevilla. De Jong is under contract in Andalusia until 2023 but is expected to leave the club.
