The legendary hockey player died last April after a battle with the disease, and the Bossy family has partnered with Lung Cancer Canada to raise support, awareness and education about screening for the disease, it announced in a news release Wednesday. .

“My father had a gift: to transform negative events into positive ones and, above all, to learn something from them. Through this fund, we want to pay tribute to him and honor his beliefs, enabling other patients to live healthier and longer lives,” said Mike Bossy’s daughter Tanya.

His launch will take place at the UBS Arena in New York, in the city where the former prolific scorer spent his entire professional career, with all funds from half and half of the night going to the good cause.

The Mike Bossy Memorial Fund was designed to support a three-pronged campaign: combat dehumanization and raise awareness of lung cancer, promote the launch of the Quebec Cancer Screening Program, and establish an educational program for patients and physicians.

“We are extremely grateful to the Bossy family for their lung cancer awareness and support efforts. This tribute is a great way to honor Mike Bossy’s legacy and address the dehumanization still associated with lung cancer,” said Shem Singh, director of Lung Cancer Canada.

According to the organization, 9,000 Quebecers will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 6,200 people will die from it in 2023.
