The regattas of the America’s Cup must leave before 18.00 in Auckland (New Zealand), or 06.00 Italian time (we are twelve hours behind). This is what the regulation of the oldest sporting competition in the world. The real risk is that tonight there will be none or only one regatta, because in the Hauraki Gulf a wind of less than 6.5 knots blows by regulation to start the regattas.
That speed must be recorded for five consecutive minutes before the start (from -9 ′ to -4 ′) and the Race-7 of the confrontation between Luna Rossa and Team New Zealand could not start at 04.12 as foreseen by the original program. It is continuing with continuous postponements, but it must be borne in mind that it will not be possible to go beyond 06.00, as the race commissioner Iain Murray reiterated. The calendar also includes race-8, but the race is at risk as well as race-7 if the wind doesn’t pick up.
By regulation, in fact, 25-30 minutes must pass between the end of the first regatta and the start of the second (as we have been used to seeing in recent months). A race cannot last more than 45 minutes and the first upwind leg must be completed in 12 minutes maximum. Otherwise the result is not approved.
