Russian oil tycoon Vagit Alekperov is stepping down as president of Lukoil ahead of schedule and will resign as a member of the board of directors. This was announced by the Russian agencies RIA Novosti and Interfax in their Telegram channels.

The notice of Alekperov’s departure was sent to the head of the company’s board of directors.

At the end of March 2022, Alekperov owned and disposed of the votes in relation to 3.12% of the shares of Lukoil, and still has a share in another 5.43%.

Alekperov is on the US and British sanctions lists for Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to Forbes, his fortune is estimated at about $ 15 billion, he is in the top 10 richest Russians.

Lukoil is the second largest oil company in the Russian Federation.
