MINSK, June 3. / TASS /. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has decided to resign the current government. This was reported on Wednesday by the TV channel “Belarus-1”.
According to him, the head of state signed a decree.
Proposals for a new composition of the government were discussed earlier on Wednesday at a meeting with Lukashenko with the participation of President of the Council of the Republic (upper house of parliament) Natalia Kochanova, chairman of the House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) Vladimir Andreichenko, head of the presidential administration Igor Sergeyenko and Secretary of State for the Security Council Andrei Ravkov. The President noted that the meeting participants held a series of consultations, examined the current composition of the government, new candidates and made proposals on this issue on Tuesday. He also said that on the eve of the election, the incumbent president always determined the composition of the government in advance. Lukashenko said that he did not consider it necessary to radically change the personnel in the formation of the new Cabinet.
The current composition of the government has been working since August 18, 2018 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sergei Rumas. The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for August 9.
