Luka Radivojevič Makes History as Slovakia Wins Third Straight Match at 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship

During the broadcast of the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship, several hockey experts and former hockey representatives will take turns in the studio or during the co-commentary of the matches. Branko Radivojevič was our guest in the Slovakia – Norway match.

The Slovaks won convincingly 8:4 and for the first time in history they won the first three matches at the tournament. Luka Radivojevič, the son of the legendary hockey player and our guest, netted the seventh goal of the Slovaks with a hard shot in the power play.

The 16-year-old defender thus became Slovakia’s second youngest scorer in the history of the Junior World Championships after Marián Gáborík. Luka Radivojevič works in the junior team of the Swedish Örebro, while this season he also made his debut among the seniors in the SHL.
“As a father, I am very proud and I am glad that he also contributed to the win with goals,” said Branko Radivojevic in our JOJŠPORT studio.

The task of the guests is often to critically evaluate the performances of the hockey players on the ice, and what the co-commentator Rasťo Konečný would not allow himself, Branko unscrupulously evaluated to our viewers and criticized his son for a mistake in preventing the overnumbering in the third period, in which the Norwegians reduced to 2:7 :

“Both defenders could step back. Luka read it a bit wrong there and I think he didn’t see that it was a two against one situation. He should have looked over his shoulder to check, but he was focused on the player with the puck. With two already going against him, he should have moved more to the middle to make the pass impossible. He could leave the player with the puck to the goalkeeper, as he could only shoot from an angle. I think Adam Gajan would definitely be able to handle it. One more mistake came from Luka when he put the hockey stick on the ice, he had it wrongly directed and in slow motion we saw that he didn’t solve anything with it. He should have put it in the opposite direction to prevent the pass.’

Luka Radivojevič impressed many experts in Slovakia and abroad. In the opening three games of the championship, he got solid space on the ice, playing 15 minutes and 48 seconds against the Czech Republic, 15 minutes and 41 seconds against Switzerland and 16 minutes and 20 seconds against Norway.

We will not only be cheering for Luka in other matches, Slovakia’s last duel in the basic group awaits us next – on Sunday, New Year’s Eve 31.12. they will start at 12:00 against the USA – comments by Pavol Pindják, watch the JOJŠPORT studio with Tomáš Horváth from 11:30.
