Luis Roda wins the XXVI Jovellanos International Essay Prize | BE Gijón

The magistrate Luis Roda García has obtained the XXVI Jovellanos International Essay Prize, which annually summons Nobel Editions, for ‘Cribs, graves and footprints’, a journey to memories and immanent culture of two people who walk through history, myths, literature and certain landscapes.

The jury, chaired by José Luis García Delgado, has chosen by unanimously the work of the magistrate Mierense among the 149 originals from 28 countries that have been submitted to this year’s edition.

García Delgado has highlighted the “enormous literary brilliance” of the work in which, in a display of erudition and citing travel, Roda remembers legendary places and characters such as El Cid, Sissi, Juan Ramón Jiménez or Paul Valery while speculating on feelings.

“With this work Luis Roda manages to make the stones speak”, has assured the former president of the Principality and member of the jury, Pedro De Silva, who considers that the most interesting thing is that the author manages to involve the reader “in a different tempo” with what makes him work a bit to later fully remunerate him.

De Silva, who learned about Roda’s ability in “long-term literature” with his work “Memories of a city that never existed”, has highlighted the recreation of landscapes in which feelings play a role although it is marked different for its historical integration.
