Luis Lacalle Pou, at the America Business Forum: “Uruguay is going to trade with the world because it is the progress and the leap that we must take in these years”

The President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, was the first interviewed this Friday of America Business Forum 2021. In dialogue with Ignacio Gonzalez -founder of the America Business Forum-, spoke about his management at the head of the country and the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. “Uruguay is going to trade with the world because it is the progress and the leap that we must take in these years”, He stressed.

Regarding the decisions that his government made to face the health crisis, he stated: “I would appeal again to the responsible freedom of Uruguayans”.

“A lifetime passed from the last time I was here”, The president began his speech, recalling that he was present there in February of last year.

“What changed in the Luis of that moment with the one of now?”, González consulted him; to which Lacalle Pou replied: “There is an emotional and emotional preparation after assuming the government. You are learning who you are going to represent. You have to understand what the majority wants in a country. There was a very committed team. After 12 days the first four cases (of COVID-19) in the country are confirmed ”.

And he continued: “When there is no manual, obviously there is no formula to deal with a crisis like this. Everything has to be tailored to your country. On the weekend of March 21-23, 2020, I was walking from one side to the other and receiving many messages. They were contrary to the sense of freedom that Uruguayans have. The Uruguayans showed that they were capable of freedom and solidarity ”.

Then he reaffirmed: “I would appeal again to the responsible freedom of Uruguayans.” And he continued: “That weekend was complicated. If we made another decision, today we were in a very complex situation ”.

The head of state also emphasized that the “vaccine mechanism did not work and we had to elbow in to get vaccines. There the Presidency team … The truth is that they are cracks. There were people who behaved very well, I am not going to forget about them and they made Uruguay have vaccines in a short time ”, he stressed.
