Lucas Pereira, former AC Ajaccio player, died of Covid

He was 39 years old and the Covid won him. Lucas Pereira died this weekend from complications related to the virus. The Brazilian had been hospitalized for four days and suffered cardiac arrest. He died at his home in Brazil in a country where the virus has already claimed more than 500,000 lives. “Our friend Lucas Pereira lost the match against the Covid. This message plunges the club into an infinite sadness as the character had marked the spirits on the human and sporting plan ”, reacted the AC Ajaccio, club in which the Brazilian spent four seasons.

Lucas Pereira had arrived in Ajaccio in 2004, at just 22 years old. He was coming straight from Brazil, where he had made his debut. Under the Corsican sun, Lucas Pereira had scored 24 goals in 97 games, one of which Corsica still remembers in a derby against neighboring Bastia in 2008. He then went to South Korea to pursue his career, before a few in Qatar, Brazil and Greece. He retired in 2012.

Returning to the country, he was a leader in his training club, Ponte Preta, in the second division. He took care of the transfers. “Lucas, rest in peace, Bear forever!” AC Ajaccio wrote in Corsican in its statement.
