Lucas Pellas on the competition before the final: “Of course you want to play”

Just in time for the morning coffee, Glenn Solberg announced that Hampus Wanne, Niclas Ekberg and Felix Claar have left the quarantine and are ready to play before tonight’s European Championship final against Spain. Thus, the league captain is facing an urgent problem. Most recently arrived Lucas Pellas – who was successful in the semifinals – hopes to be included but says that he buys if Solberg wants to invest in those who have been involved from the beginning.

There are a larger number of players than ever who have been involved in the Swedish successes in the European Championships. The positive thing about it is that more players get the experiences and memories compared to in “normal” championships. But the downside is that players may be forced to leave the squad when others return.

Lucas Pellas was one of the last players in and he made a brilliant effort and scored 7 goals in the semifinal against France. But competition for places has intensified since it became clear that three players will return from quarantine. Emil Mellegård is already in Pella’s position and now Hampus Wanne is also back.

– I’m glad I got to be against France and of course I hope I’m in the final. It is a European Championship final so it is clear that you want to play, but at the same time I have not been here from the start, so if they want to drive with those who have been from the start, I buy it one hundred percent, he says and points to the goal that Palicka defended in the second half against France:

– Then I get to sit there behind the goal and shout.

“Wanne deserves to play”

The tours around the players who showed positive values in the covid tests have been many and the situation has changed several times. For Pellas, it was a last-minute trip that he was close to missing and for his girlfriend – who accompanied him to Budapest – it was a trip by night bus to Lyon to hand over his passport before the flight. The recharging before the semi-final against France did not include much sleep. But now Jan has had time to rest to some extent.

– It is always difficult to sleep after a match with the adrenaline rush that you have and especially after a match like this. You do not get to bed until very late. But it’s been okay. Throwing in a little naps here and there will probably not be a problem.

Around 12 o’clock, Solberg will present the 19-man squad and no later than 17.00 which 16 will be against Spain.

– I prepare as if I am going to play and if I am not allowed to do that, I will support the guys who do it. Hampus Wanne deserves to play this final, says Lucas Pellas.

The European Championship final between Sweden and Spain starts at 18.00 and is shown on TV6 and Viaplay.
