Shipping on the Main will largely be at a standstill for the next two weeks. The reason for this is maintenance work on several Main locks from Monday. Some of the locks have to be drained. Among other things, walls, gates and gate drives are examined.
Since the closures were announced early, ships and ports can react and reschedule in good time. From April 8th at the latest, all ships can sail again.
Some locks are 80 to 90 years old and are used regularly – which is why they have to be cleaned up every year.
Excursion boats on the Main, for example between Würzburg and Veitshöchheim, are not affected by the shipping ban.
