Love in Catalonia: Debbie’s B&B Success Story and Paul’s Journey

It was the talk of the day for weeks: B&B Full of love. The storm has now subsided a bit, but Debbie’s bed and breakfast is busier than ever. How is the b&b owner doing? And how is Paul doing in Catalonia?

“I am still a bit overwhelmed,” says Debbie de Jong in conversation with NU.nl. The former television producer with a bed and breakfast in Catalonia was one of the few participants to find love: she has been together with Paul from Amsterdam for a few months.

“It’s not like we’ve had years of sporting achievements or written an amazing book,” says Debbie. “All we’ve done is be ourselves. That’s all it is.”

Millions of Dutch people followed Debbie’s love adventures for just under two months. There was an instant click with Paul, the first man to visit her b&b. The other candidates came and went, but Paul stayed. In the last episode he asked the B&B owner to date. And it’s still thick.

“We regularly look at each other: what is happening?” Debbie laughs. “I’m glad I have him by my side. If I think for a moment: what now, then that cheerful guy comes around the corner and we discuss what we can do. That’s all fun and special.”

Suus ‘van Bram’ now works for Debbie

Paul is currently in Debbie’s b&b, where he assists her in the ins and outs. “He hasn’t booked a return yet, so he’s not locked into a date,” says Debbie. “I hope he lasts a long time. He’s a sturdy bird – he can take a lot. A chap with life experience and I enjoy leaning against it every now and then. I hope we have a long and happy life. I see the future rosy.”

Debbie’s b&b team was expanded last week with another former participant: the enthusiastic Suus, who was a candidate at Bram in Sweden. “I thought she was a nice moppie anyway,” says Debbie. “During the recording of the reunion episode, I got into a conversation with Suus. She said she was in the catering industry and I asked her: don’t you feel like coming to Spain? She looked at me with big eyes: ‘Yes, that I do.'”

“So this week she drove to Spain with the camper and now she works with us in the service. I am very happy with her.”

The loves that originated in B&B

Besides Debbie and Paul, Joy and Dani are also still together. Dani has moved in with Joy in Spain. They want to start a business together. Thalia eventually did not find love with Leendert, but with Harry. He briefly moved into Debbie’s bed and breakfast. Candidate Bram from Sweden is also in love again, he says in a vlog. But to whom, he does not say. He is now with Esra, who signed up for Joy.

‘The whole of the Netherlands seemed curious if we would end up together’

A lot of B&B Full of lovecandidates now have a good relationship with each other. For example, some candidates are dating each other and some friendships have developed (see box). “It feels like one big family together,” says Debbie.

“That’s what I’m proud of, too B&B Full of love really brought about a sense of solidarity in the Netherlands. I compare it a bit with the feeling that prevails during the World Cup. The whole of the Netherlands seemed curious whether Debbie and Paul would end up together.”

The former television producer also gives credits to the makers for this. “They really made a golden mix with the editing and music. It would be my greatest wish B&B Full of love is nominated for the Televizier-Ring. That would be the crowning glory of the makers’ work. And we can all appear on the scene in gala attire. Arm in arm with Paul, of course.”

But for the time being, Debbie still has to “rave on” in her b&b: thanks to her fame, the bookings are pouring in. “There are still hundreds of unanswered emails that I have to slog through. We are already packed this year. But that’s just fun. I experience it as an exploded, but positive bomb.”
