Lousy service, failures, foisted contracts: Vodafone gets negative price “buffer stop 2021”

At the consumer advice center in Saxony, the mobile phone provider Vodafone is considered a “perennial favorite” for complaints and criticism.

Leipzig – And the loser is – Vodafone! This year, the mobile communications giant received the negative price from the consumer advice center in Saxony (VZS) – the “Bumper 2021”. Complaints about foisted contracts, unjustified debt collection claims and ignorance in terms of service are a “long-running issue” for the award winner, the consumer advocates justify the vote.

The result was clear: of the 2749 consumers who took part in the vote, 50.56 percent (1390) voted for Vodafone.

The buffer stop 2021, with which the VZS honors rip-offs, blenders and service rivets every two years, is now going to the headquarters of the telecommunications group in Düsseldorf.

“Vodafone is the perennial favorite par excellence in our daily practice,” said VZS board member Andreas Eichhorst. The annoyance ranges from poor customer service to unjustified claims to service failures, for example after moving.

The VZS consultants also often have to deal with contracts foisted on by dubious Vodafone contract brokers.

VZS legal expert Claudia Neumerkel reported on a blatant case from Leipzig.

A contract was foisted on an older woman – for an address where she has demonstrably never lived. For three years, Vodafone would have harassed the consumer with invoices, reminders and debt collection claims ultimately amounting to 2,000 euros. Only when the consumer advice center got involved in 2021 would Vodafone write off the unjustified claims, according to Neumerkel.

When awarding the prize, consumer advice center boss Eichhorst encouraged all consumers not to give up in such violent cases, but to contact the VZS consultants.

Vodafone Germany has already reacted to the little honorable price. The information from the VZS will be used to improve the services for the customer, according to a statement by the group.

Substituted contracts would not be tolerated “on any sales channel”, and rigorous action would be taken against such sales partners.
