Los Angeles Chargers Fire Head Coach Brandon Staley and General Manager Tom Telesco

The franchise has fired both coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. Later in the day, D-line coach Jay Rodgers also had to leave.

“We are not where we want to be and need a new vision,” says Chargers owner Dean Spanos, explaining the decision.

Staley came from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 and was supposed to lead the smaller of the two LA teams into a glorious future. However, his record of 24 wins and 24 losses is not what one had hoped for from the defensive guru.

His unit in particular was unable to convince under his leadership despite major transfers such as the signing of JC Jackson, who has since been sent away via trade. With a record of 5-9, the Chargers are currently at the bottom of the table.

Staley is the first Chargers head coach to be fired during a season since 1998. Back then, Kevin Gilbride had to leave after just six games.

Giff Smith will take over as head coach for Staley for the time being. Smith had previously coached outside linebackers and had no experience as a head coach in the NFL.

Telesco, on the other hand, has been in office since 2013. Under his direction, the franchise only made it to the playoffs twice, although he drafted numerous star players such as quarterback Justin Herbert and wide receiver Keenan Allen. JoJo Wooden, who has also worked for the franchise since 2013, will take over his position for the time being.
