Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen clocked in at 34.29 and one hundredth of a second behind his own Norwegian record of 500 meters in the World Cup in ice skating in Calgary on Friday.

It secured the Bergen native 11th place in the distance. Lorentzen paired with South Korean Cha Min-kyu and beat him comfortably.
Lorentzen has had a weak start to the season and has not managed to catch up with the best positions so far.
His fourth place in the 1000 meters in Salt Lake City last weekend is his best position so far this season.
Lorentzen will run 1000 meters on Saturday, and Friday’s race seems to be a good start.
Chinese Tingyu Gao set a course record with a huge race of 33.88 seconds. Thus, he beat Pavel Kulizhnikov’s old record of 34 blanks.
However, it was to be lowered again when the home hope Laurent Deubreuil struck with 33.80, which led to victory ahead of Tingyu and Japanese Yuma Murakami.
