It was the parade flight of the British national airline. BA1 left London Heathrow at 10:30 a.m. and landed in New York JFK at 9:25 a.m. The Concorde brought British Airways passengers to their destination at more than twice the speed of sound and in a little less than three and a half hours.

The bon mot quickly got around that, thanks to BA1, you could have breakfast twice a day – on both sides of the North Atlantic. That wasn’t cheap, though. Back then, you paid $ 12,000 for a return ticket. Therefore, BA1 was used almost exclusively by the wealthy and business people.

A first and a brief second return

With the last flight of the British Airways Concorde on October 24, 2003, the legendary flight number that was introduced in the mid-1980s also disappeared. However, it should not remain idle for long. In 2009, British Airways started flights from London City to New York and gave the offer the number BA1. It was a pure business class service with an Airbus A318 with only 32 seats. It was therefore very similar to the Concorde offer.

But this time too, BA1 disappeared in the Corona crisis. British Airways stopped the flight from London city airport to the American east coast metropolis and scrapped the aircraft. The flight number now returns again – but only for one time. British Airways is launching a special flight to celebrate the opening of the United States to vaccinated travelers from Europe. It takes place on November 8th and runs under flight number BA1 from London Heathrow to New York JFK. An Airbus A350-1000 is used.
