London will not be able to host the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris due to the position of the UK government in relation to Russian and Belarusian athletes, who are required to sign a “declaration of neutrality”. About it informed portal Inside the Games.

“We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to hold the Olympic qualification in the UK, we hoped so. This is especially frustrating for those British athletes who are now missing the opportunity to compete for a ticket to the Olympics in front of the public in their country, ”said a representative of the UK National Olympic Committee (BOA).

“We must abandon the Motherland.” IOC will not invite Russia to the 2024 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) considered London as one of the candidates for qualifying tournaments in breaking, skateboarding, rock climbing and BMX, however, due to the position of the country’s government, it was excluded from the list of applicants.

Earlier, the British government said it would allow Russians and Belarusians to compete in the country if they sign a declaration of neutrality. This season, for admission to Wimbledon, Russian and Belarusian tennis players signed a “declaration of neutrality”, in which, in particular, they pledged not to make statements in support of a special operation in Ukraine.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on July 13 that it would not yet invite Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on the set date of July 26. The organization noted that the final decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes will be made “at the appropriate time.”

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes be admitted to international competitions under a neutral flag. This does not apply to athletes participating in team sports, as well as those athletes who actively support the special operation in Ukraine and are related to the armies of the two countries and other law enforcement agencies. Decisions on the admission of athletes are made by international federations.
