London couple turn double-decker bus into their brand new home for just £ 17,500News

Avoiding paying rent or a mortgage on a house, a couple from London, UK, turned a double-decker bus into their home. The welcoming bus checks all the requirements of a comfortable home. Couple Luke Walker (27) and Charlie MacVicar (26) shared the transformation of the bus on an Instagram page named Double Decker Home. The Luxury Home Made Bus has all the amenities available in a conventional home at a much lower cost.

Their bus, a Go-Ahead London Volvo Plaxton, which they bought in 2017 for £ 2,500. No less than £ 15,000 was spent on renovating the bus in 2018, which was also turned into workspaces during the Covid-19 pandemic. Luke works for an insurance company while Charlie is the logistics coordinator.

Speaking about their experience, Charlie said they wanted to live together, but they didn’t want to be tied down by rent or mortgage. She said they watched George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, a show by the English architect where he explores unique buildings. Charlie said the couple explored other options including a trailer and shipping container, but the two decided to live on a bus, Metro reported.

Their return bus is parked in Essex on Charlie’s father’s land for a small fee. The couple were also able to use the land available outside the bus. They have created a patio where the couple can watch movies. Charlie and Luke have two goats, Monty and Darwin, who are their only pets.

Charlie believes they couldn’t have made a home without professional help. They hired people for the plumping, carpentry and electrical installations that transformed this space. She said help from others played an important role in building the house, which took nearly a year.

While this might sound like a dream home, there are some downsides to living on the bus. Charlie shares that the house gets too hot in the summer and during the winters they struggle to maintain the heat levels required to keep the house warm. Despite this, Charlie says that there is nowhere they would like to live because the benefits of living here are huge.
