Former world champion Vasyl Lomachenko is back! The 33-year-old Ukrainian made a convincing return to the boxing ring last night in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA). Against the Japanese Masayoshi Nakatani Lomachenko prevailed with a TKO victory in the ninth round.
Strong performance by Lomachenko: Brave Nakatani without a chance!
For Vasyl Lomachenko (15-2-0, 11 Ko’s) it was the first competition appearance after losing the world title to Teofimo Lopez in October of last year. In the “Virgin” hotel in Las Vegas, the former two-time Olympic champion faced the Japanese Masayoshi Nakatani (19-2-0, 13 Ko’s).
The 32-year-old Nakatani already boxed against Lomachenko-defeated Lopez in 2019 and at least got by. This partial success, however, could not be repeated last night. Vasyl Lomachenko didn’t give the guest from Japan the slightest chance!
Already at the beginning, the much smaller Lomachenko, who completely lived up to his role as a favorite, turned out to be the simply better and above all more explosive boxer. In lap five, “Loma” sent his opponent onto the boards for the first time with a cracking right.
It should go until the ninth round, however, before the unequal skirmish was over. After the Ukrainian covered the overwhelmed Nakatani with several hands, the referee released the Japanese kneeling on the floor from his suffering (time: 1:48 min in round 9). So Vasyl Lomachenko celebrated a convincing comeback. Now the southpaw hopes for a world championship fight soon.
