Logan Sargent loses super license points at the Mexican F1 GP[F1-Gate.com]

Logan Sargent says he regrets not being able to make a small step forward at the Mexican Grand Prix for his F1 super license and Williams F1 debut in 2023.

Williams development driver Logan Sargent is almost confirmed to be promoted to the race seat for 2023 as Alexander Albon’s teammate.

Williams team principal Jost Kapito has revealed that Logan Sargent will win the spot if he earns enough super license points over the weekend of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.

American-born Logan Sargent has 28 of the 40 F1 Super License points needed to race in F1 in 2023.

Logan Sargent is currently 3rd in the drivers’ standings of the F2 2022 Championship and if he finishes at least 5th, he can get a Super F1 License.

However, with one round left in the F2 season and a maximum of 39 points in the championship, Logan Sargent could mathematically drop to 10th place.

Williams led him through a free practice session at the F1 Mexican Grand Prix to help Logan Sargent get his F1 super license.

The intention was for Sargent to compete in FP1 at the Mexican and Abu Dhabi GPs, bringing his total F1 Super License points to 30. In that case, it meant sixth place or higher in the F2 standings would qualify for an F1 super license.

A super license point will be added if you run more than 100km in free practice, but Logan Sargent can only drive 94.688km due to the two red flags in FP1 of the Mexican F1 GP, which are only a few. score extra points for a few laps.

“Two red flags didn’t help,” Logan Sargent said after the session.

“I think we did the best we could, to be honest. We did a lot of laps and we were on track as much as possible. It was just disappointing.”
