LNSO and Vestards Šimkus in the concert «Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Rachmaninov» / Article / LSM.lv

The public media portal LSM.lv in cooperation with LMT Smart Television offers a live concert of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) “Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Rachmaninoff” on September 11 at 7 pm.

The soloist of the concert is pianist Vestards Šimkus, conductor – Ainārs Rubiķis, in the program: Peter Tchaikovsky’s “Thunderstorm”, piano concert by Edvards Griegs and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony.

Although created in a blissfully peaceful atmosphere, as the composer himself remembers, Tchaikovsky’s music depicts a storm of Shakespeare passions that was especially close to the Russian romantic. He was also excited about his Norwegian colleague Grieg, whose piano concert combines grand space, majesty, melodicity, simplicity and overflowing energy. But Rachmaninoff, returning to the symphony genre, has created an example of absolute beauty on the tragic frontier of the 20th century.

Such a rich dose of symphonic romanticism has been prepared by Rubikis, who has already found himself in the skin of the musical director of the Berlin Comic Opera, but has found time to give a musical adventure to Latvian listeners as well.
