Thanks to a 1-0 home win in local derby against Everton FC, Liverpool move into the fourth round in the English FA Cup. Matchwinner is an 18-year-old U23 professional.
Premier League leaders Liverpool have reached the fourth round of the English FA Cup without many of their stars. The team of coach Jürgen Klopp won 1-0 (0-0) in the local derby against the city neighbor FC Everton, who is coached by former Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti. U23 professional Curtis Jones (71st minute) scored the winning goal for Liverpool with a dream goal from 20 meters. The 18-year-old thus prevented the Reds from having to play a replay and the schedule for the Klopp eleven was even fuller.
Klopp spared numerous regular players in Anfield, including the offensive stars Sadio Mané, who was sitting on the bench, as well as Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who were not even in the squad. New signing Takumi Minamino, signed by RB Salzburg, played for the Reds from the start.
The only downside for Liverpool: James Milner had to be replaced after just nine minutes and hobbled off the pitch. The extent of his injury was initially unknown.
