The Liverpool team could take a new step towards crowning the Premier League title, for the first time since 1990, if they beat Tottenham during the match that will bring them together today in the 22nd round of the competition.
Liverpool have not lost in any league game in more than a year, and Liverpool have wasted just two points from 20 matches played in the league this season, which led the team to the top of the standings by 13 points against its closest followers, and it also has a postponed match.
The Liverpool team, led by coach Juergen Klopp, is traveling with a limited player list due to injuries, but some absent players are close to returning.
Defender Joel Matip and midfielder Fabienho trained with the team this week, and could return to the squad, while Takumi Minamino could play his first Premier League game.
Ten players from the starting lineup were given a break during the FA Cup win over Everton, including Trent Alexander Arnold.
Arnold said in statements to the club’s official website: “Preserve the momentum we have reached and try to repeat the same performance of 2019 as possible, because if we do this, I think we will be crowned with more cups.”
He added: “With the position we are in the Premier League, if we can repeat the same thing we did in the first half of the season then we will be in a strong position when the month of May comes.”
Tottenham’s team, coached by Jose Mourinho, will miss its main striker Harry Kane and midfielder Musa Sissoko, and Tottenham enters the game without winning any last three games.
But defender Jan Vertongen said Tottenham, who is sixth after his slow start to the season, has a lot to look forward to this season.
He told Tottenham’s official website: “I do not want a dialogue to arise that we have nothing left, I still feel that we have everything to play for.”
He added: “We are still able to occupy a position in the Golden Square, we are in the next round of the Champions League and we are still competing in the FA Cup, so in the end, there is nothing big, and we will continue to move forward.”
