08:49. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threat to withdraw from the nuclear test ban treaty is an attempt to convert nuclear weapons into political benefits, said Mārcis Balodis, a researcher at the Eastern European Policy Research Center.

Balodis pointed out that at the beginning of the year, Russia suspended its participation in the New Start nuclear arms control treaty. In Balož’s opinion, with such steps, Russia is trying to create tension, because withdrawal or lack of cooperation to some extent increases ignorance about what is happening. As soon as such information becomes public, it affects not only the political leadership of countries, but also society.

00:10. When asked whether it is possible to connect the attack of the Palestinian group “Hamas” on Israel with the war in Ukraine, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Saeima, Rihards Kol (NA), stated that such a possibility cannot be ruled out, because Russia’s goal is to weaken the West on a wider scale in order to divert attention from the events in Ukraine.
