CONCERN FOR PARISIAN GARBAGE SCRAPERS
In Paris, garbage collectors adapt to the coronavirus to continue cleaning the streets despite the “danger” of the virus. With gloves and masks that are added to the usual garbage, they too are on the front line. “When we come here, we are afraid like everyone” but “we do what is necessary for the city, because if we let the garbage go up, there would be even more problems”, testified Fred Romil, 44 years old , to AFP.
About 1,000 agents are on the ground every day against 3,500 in normal times, said Paul Simondon, assistant to the cleanliness of the town hall of Paris. A total of 117 cleaners contracted the coronavirus. Among them, two officers, contaminated while on sick leave, died.
