Austria will reopen on June 16 its border with Italy, closed since March to combat the spread of the new coronavirus, the government has announced, which will also lift controls with most other countries in the EU, but not Sweden and Spain.
“Yes, we are opening the border. Yes, traveling to Italy, Greece, Croatia for example will be possible,” Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said at a press conference.
Vienna has established a list of 31 countries with which freedom of travel will be restored on the same date. Sweden, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom are excluded. For these countries, a negative Covid-19 test or a 14-day isolation will continue to be required.
