Mediņš, Bishop of Jelgava Diocese Edvards Pavlovskis and Director of Bārbele Boys’ Primary School Ilona Blūma are participating in the press conference. It is planned that Pavlovskis will present the position of the church on the work of the “Blessing Community of the Mountain” and news about the events in the work of the society led by the dean.

It is expected that Mediņš will provide information about the association’s “work with difficult-to-raise teenagers and people suffering from various addictions”. It is also planned to present the events that led to the survey of VBTAI and to present the future actions of the organization.

The organizers of the press conference point out that Blūma will present the current activities of Bārbele Boys’ Primary School, the course of inspections of the state supervisory institutions at the school, as well as the plans for the new school year. At the end of the press conference, a short tour of the Brukna manor farm, where community members and guests work, is planned for the media. The organizers of the event promise that journalists will have the opportunity to meet both members of the community and families whose children have lived in the community in Brukna manor this summer.

It has already been reported that during a re-inspection on August 20 in the association Kalna Blessings Community, which operates in Brukna manor in Bauska region, VBTAI together with a representative of the Ombudsman’s Office did not get full confidence that previously violated children’s rights violations continue, VBTAI representative Taivo Trams.

Taking into account the VBTAI application regarding the findings of the inspections in Brukna manor, the police has started a departmental inspection, Dace Kalniņa, a representative of the Zemgale Region Office of the State Police, informed LETA.

She explained that on the basis of the application received from VBTAI, the officials of Bauska district have started the departmental inspection. Law enforcement officers explain all the circumstances about possible violations related to the stay of young people in Brukna manor in Dāviņi parish of Bauska region.

In its turn, the State Labor Inspectorate (SLI) told LETA that the SLI representatives arrived at Brukna manor on Friday, however, the initial findings of the inspection show that children are not working there at the moment. All employees there are adults and work voluntarily, and do not complain about working conditions.

The SLI failed to contact the community leader, priest Andrejs Mediņš, during the inspection. The SLI will still assess and clarify the circumstances of the specific case, so more information will follow.

In the future, the SLI will have to assess what kind of agreements have been concluded in this case and whether agreements have been concluded with children at all, including whether the guardians of minors have given their consent. According to the SLI, even in the case of voluntary work, the employer must ensure healthy and safe working conditions.
