Says Pēteris Kvetkovskis, “Skyforger” vocalist: “Julgī Stalte invited us one day to participate in the “Skandinieku” project, where we would perform a song together from their long-standing repertoire. Then here will be our heavy version of the song “Lec eglīte”. Meanwhile, we continue to work on the new the creation of the album, which is already in its final phase. Changes in the line-up and daily work have delayed the work a bit, but we hope to get everything ready by next year!”

“Lec, eglīte” is an old wedding song of the Latvian people, the roots of which have been recorded in various variations in songs and oral folklore many centuries ago. It was sung on the morning of the wedding ceremony, in honor of the wedding, when the daughter went out to her husband. Eglīte is also an ancient musical instrument of the Latvian wedding folk, made from the top of a Christmas tree, decorated with metals and ribbons. The thirtieth or thirtieth is also the metal instrument version of these honors.

In the Latvian understanding of the world, the fir tree is an element of eternal life, as well as a boundary tree between the worlds, this sun and the next. At the wedding, the daughter dies as a daughter and is reborn as a wife. Likewise, a boy dies and is reborn as a man. The Christmas tree had a certain place in the wedding ceremony – the Christmas tree was placed at the door of the bride’s (bride’s) barn, or at the end of the table where the bride was sitting. Later, when singing carols, it is used in the hand of the leader to attract attention and accentuate the rhythm. At the beginning of a new act of life, every thorn will collide on the fir needles, and the bad will not enter this world.

“Let there be tomorrow! Weddings. Hope. The ability to go through your initiation and become a husband from a boy and a daughter from a wife – for your family, nation, land, self. Take responsibility and carry it with honor,” says Julgī Stalte, “Skandinieku” artistic director. “The most important thing is to keep your spine and create a fruitful tomorrow. A tomorrow in which weddings and baptisms are the main honors, and the advice of generations is the main rule. Our country needs men who have become men from boys and know their own justice. Our country needs wives who daughters have become wives and know their power. This is how we combined the advice of our ancestors, our time, the sound of instruments and our voices. This is how we sing “Jump, Christmas tree” together!”

Pēteris Kvetkovskis – rhythm guitar, Edgars Grabovskis – bass guitar, voice, Alvis Bernāns – solo guitar, Jānis Osis – drums, Edgars Zilberts – kokles participated in the recording of the song, while French folk instrumentalist Geoffreys Dell’Aria played the bagpipes and staves. sometimes also performs together with “Skyforger”. Vocal parts were sung by a group of folklore friends “Skandinieki”. Recording and processing in the studio was done by Gints Lundberg.
