Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi just won his first World Cup and can now boast that he also has the most liked post on Instagram of all time.

Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi just won his first ever World Cup, and now he can boast that he also has the most liked post on Instagram of all time. As of Tuesday morning, the post had more than 62 million likes, surpassing the previous record holder, a Photo from 2019 of a brown egg.

A day after leading Argentina to their first title in 36 years, Messi posted a gallery of his celebration just after his side beat France on penalties. The first photo of him shows him smiling as he holds up the tournament trophy, and others show him celebrating with teammates and enjoying the post-match ceremony.

In the caption he wrote: “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!”

“We have shown once again that when Argentines work hard together and are united, we can achieve anything we set our minds to,” he added. “The merit of this group, which was above individualism, is the strength with which we all fought for the same dream which was also that of all Argentines…we did it!!!”

The post amassed 62 million likes in just over a day, resonating with fans of Messi and beyond. The famous instagram post about eggsince January 2019, it has reached 56 million likes and initially snatched the record for most likes from Kylie Jenner.

As for Messi and the rest of the Argentina national team, they returned to Buenos Aires early Tuesday morning. Thousands of fans were seen giving them a hero’s welcome after arriving from Qatar.

In addition to the most liked Instagram post, the Guinness Book of Records said Messi broke four more records after Sunday’s victory. He holds the most Man of the Match awards at World Cups (11); he is the first person to attend five different World Cups; has the most World Cup appearances as captain (19); and has appeared in more World Cup tournaments than any other male player (5).
