Lionel Messi will have a long break in the winter. The Argentine missed the play-offs with Inter Miami, so the new season won’t start until next February. Recently there was speculation about a loan to FC Barcelona. Now Messi has commented on it.

Since joining Inter Miami last summer, Lionel Messi has taken the American MLS by storm. The Argentine contributed eleven goals and five assists in 13 games for his new club, was immediately the star of the team and even won the Leagues Cup with Miami.

However, he and his team missed the MLS play-offs. An injury to Messi stopped the Florida club’s race to catch up. So the new season for the world champion doesn’t start until next February. Therefore, there has recently been speculation about a loan to FC Barcelona.

This is what Messi plans to do during the winter break

The 36-year-old now vehemently put a stop to this. “No,” Messi said simply when asked whether he would be loaned to Europe in the winter. “I will train, I will play our next match,” he said, referring to the last game of the season against Charlotte FC.

“And I’ll try to come to the national team in November in the best condition. After that, I’ll enjoy my vacation in Argentina,” he announces. In the past, stars like David Beckham had dared to go on loan to Europe during the MLS break – Messi apparently plans differently.

Messi: “I will return in January to start the pre-season.”

“It’s the first time that I’ll have more days off in December, with the holidays, in peace and with my people,” said Messi, looking forward to more time off than in previous years. “I’ll be back in January to start the pre-season. As always, I’ll start from scratch and prepare as best as I can.”

The 36-year-old missed the MLS playoffs with Miami after his first loss with the team before the end of the regular season. Before Messi’s arrival, his teammates had not scored enough points. He celebrated the next gala with Argentina on Wednesday night: Messi scored both goals in the 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Peru.
