Lionel Messi attacked by Rodrygo’s father as a little saint

The father of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has attacked Lionel Messi on social media after his verbal altercation with his son in the match between Brazil and Argentina.

“Is anyone surprised? The little saint who never causes trouble with anyone,” Rodrygo’s father wrote on his Instagram channel.

This was preceded by a heated discussion between the Brazilian striker and Messi on the pitch. Rodrygo is said to have accused the Argentine players of behaving “like cowards”. Messi is said to have responded with the words: “We are world champions, why are we cowards? Be careful what you say.”

Argentina narrowly won 1-0 against their arch-rivals thanks to a goal from Nicolas Otamendi. Nine minutes before the end, Brazil midfielder Joelinton was shown a red card. The Albiceleste are currently at the top of the 2026 World Cup qualifying table, while Brazil remain in sixth place with just seven points from six games.
