Linz votes: This is how Linz politicians react to the current Upper Austrian Sunday question

This is how Linz politicians comment on the BezirksRundschau’s survey on the state elections in autumn and thus the starting position of their state parties before the start of the election campaign.

LINZ. Last week, a survey by the opinion research institute GMK from the end of April on behalf of the BezirksRundschau provided something to talk about. She sees the state ÖVP at 38 to 41 percent, the FPÖ at 20 to 23 percent, followed by the SPÖ at 17 to 19 and the Greens at 12 to 14 percent. The Neos have to fight with 3 to 5 percent for entry into the state parliament. Almost three quarters of those surveyed are satisfied with the work of the state government. However, just as many believe that federal politics will have a negative impact on the state elections. But how do the Linz politicians comment on the result?

Baier: “High satisfaction with Governor Stelzer”

For the Linz ÖVP boss and top candidate in the municipal council election, Bernhard Baier, the positive values reflect “the high level of satisfaction with the reliable and professional work of the ÖVP Upper Austria with Governor Thomas Stelzer”. He is convinced that the chosen path will ensure a strong Upper Austria in the future and that the work of Stelzer will also be honored by the population in the election.

Hein: “Good starting position for autumn”

FPÖ top candidate Markus Hein sees the “many ÖVP scandals”, such as corruption allegations, post chats and the award of masks, not yet fully reached the voters. Hein explains the projected high losses of his party with the extraordinary election year 2015 due to the refugee crisis. However, the survey confirms that “the people appreciate the outstanding work of the FPÖ in Upper Austria and thus a good starting position has been created for the autumn”, said Hein.

Giegler: The population relies on tried and tested crisis managers

For SPÖ parliamentary group chairman Stefan Giegler, the result signals that the population wants stability and no experiments after the end of the health crisis that is looming. Proven crisis managers should cope with the economic crisis. “In Upper Austria, one may admit, it was above all the governor and the mayor of Linz that proved themselves. They always came together across party lines when it came to late or inadequate decisions by the federal government iron out “, says Giegler. The FPÖ has bottomed out, “probably because it is much more constructive in Upper Austria and Linz than in Vienna and in the federal government,” says Giegler.

Schobesberger: “Tailwind for climate protection”

The green top candidate Eva Schobesberger sees the polls for her party as a tailwind and a signal that climate protection is playing an increasingly important role for people. “We will do our best to tackle climate-friendly politics at all levels courageously and decisively and at the same time to strengthen social cohesion,” said Schobesberger.
