Lindgren becomes coach – impressed by Rydström: “Kalmar has charmed everyone”

Häcken’s team captain Rasmus Lindgren, 37, has ended his playing career and it is now clear that he will continue in the club as coach.

– I will be an assistant in P19 and then be in U21 matches. If necessary, I will also be available for the A-team if you feel it is needed, Lindgren says to Fotbollskanalen.

The contract is for one year. And he looks forward to learning things.

– It feels like it will be very developing. That’s what’s most important now. At the same time as I want to contribute what I can, you should develop yourself because you are completely green in being a coach and leader, he says.

As an 18-year-old, Rasmus Lindgren left Landskrona and moved to Amsterdam to play for Ajax. Every now and then an international career took off and when he returned to Swedish football as a 31-year-old he had won league gold with Ajax and Red Bull Salzburg, and also cup gold for both clubs and also for Groningen.

This is the first time in many years that he will not start a pre-season as a player.

– It’s special. It’s not hard and nothing I go and ponder. I have prepared well for this. But it is clear that when the A-team starts now, it will be a little special not to be involved.

Now that you become a coach, do you take with you something from a coach that you yourself had as a player?

– You bring stuff from coaches you have of course. But I’m pretty fresh in my mind that way. I may not take as much with me from a coach as I had about 15 years ago, football has changed so much. Then you probably take with you most from the last six or seven years. But when it comes to pieces of leadership, I can take from those I had from about 15 years ago. But I’ll probably take some with me from most of the ones I’ve had.

What kind of coaches and teams inspire you?

– Today you see several teams, both in the Allsvenskan and abroad, who want to control matches and have their own identity. It is something you want yourself and be inspired by.

Anyone special that you are thinking of?

– There are many, but here in Sweden, Kalmar has charmed everyone, even Sirius when Rydström was there. There you see how much you can influence as a coach. Fun to see that a coach can influence so much and get a think in the players. You want to be able to transfer what you want to the players and play as you want.
