Limousin Sport Santé moves three departments

Created in 2015, Limousin Sport Santé targets a growing number of people. For several years, it has developed “sport-health bridges” in Limousin between doctors and numerous sports associations.

Limousin Sport Santé has only been working for six years in the heart of three departments: Corrèze, Creuse and Haute-Vienne. Created at the initiative of the Youth of Sports and Social Cohesion (DRJSCS) and the Regional Health Agency (ARS), Limousin Sport Santé is aimed at people who are sedentary, overweight or suffering from a chronic disease such as as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. For several years, Limousin Sport Santé has been aimed at all these audiences by allowing them to practice an activity adapted to the physical condition of each. To do this, “sport-health bridges” have been set up between doctors and numerous sports associations in the three departments.

Since 2015, 1,485 people have joined a gateway created by Limousin Sport Santé. The device also mobilized 375 different doctors. And among all the people who left these sport-health bridges, 43% continue to practice in associations or within sports structures. Even in a period of health crisis, Limousin Sport Santé continues to function and obtain results. “There is a clear reduction in the criteria of sedentary lifestyle. The number of practitioners, the duration of the exercises (+ 35%) and the energy expenditure (+ 84%), increase for sport-leisure activities ”, explains Professor Patrice Virot, president of Limousin Sport Santé. “The population, taken care of in these Limousin Sport Santé gateways, often has a chronic pathology; this obliges us to remain cautious for the gradual resumption of activities, in this very difficult period, with strict respect for barrier gestures. “ More than ever, the action of Limousin Sport Santé remains necessary.
