The Municipality of La Molina announced that he no longer has any employment relationship with the Argentine actor Marcelo oxenford, after the questions about his hiring to tell stories to children during the quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the commune revealed that, during 2019, Oxenford was paid a monthly salary of S / 12,500 and assured that it has more than “35 years of experience” in performing arts and that it is recognized nationally for his participation in film, television and theater.

In addition, he explained that the salary that Oxenford received was for his services in different theater workshops of the Molicasa program and that it was aimed at children, adolescents, older adults and people with different abilities. Classes were daily and, in total, there were 20 a week.
“Additionally, (Oxenford) was in charge of the direction and conduction of the mobile theater, with which he developed traveling presentations three times a week with a cast in various parks in the district. Each presentation was attended by up to 300 people ”, indicated the Municipality of La Molina.

Before the beginning of the state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the commune affirmed that the “face-to-face educational and cultural activities” migrated to the virtual platform and that, for that reason, their salary was reduced by 50% to Oxenford.
“However, the new working method had a positive reception by the neighbors, with a total of 46 publications of more than 50,000 reproductions of the storytellers, as well as the theater workshops via zoom,” said the Municipality of La Molina in its pronouncement.
Marcelo Oxenford was criticized on social networks for not recognizing, during a storytelling session, the Peruvian writer José Watanabe, who died on April 25, 2007. He even indicated that Watanabe could be Japanese by his surname.
