Lily Allen’s Diagnosis is Hard to Swallow: “I Have ADHD”

CELEBRITIESBritish singer Lily Allen (37) revealed that she has ADHD. She recently received that diagnosis, she says in an interview in ‘The Times’. But it doesn’t really come as a surprise: “It runs in our family.”

Those who suffer from ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – have to contend with concentration problems, hyperactivity and difficulty paying full attention to something. It was only by moving to the United States that the British singer was able to consciously address the problem: “Here in America they take mental illness much more seriously than in England.”

Allen said goodbye to the United Kingdom for good and moved to the United States when she started a relationship with David Harbour, better known as Hopper from ‘Stranger Things’. “England only lives on racism and misogyny,” she said. In 2020, the couple married in Las Vegas.

Allen has never made a secret of her struggles with mental health issues. The “Smile” singer also struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past. For example, she was addicted to Aderall, a drug against ADHD, of all things. “It made me indestructible. It kept me lean and able to go for hours. In the morning I drank small bottles of vodka again to start the day.” In 2019 she decided to stop all alcohol and drugs.

This year Allen follows in the footsteps of her husband David Harbour. She makes her acting debut in the comedy series ‘Dreamland’.
