Romelu Lukaku was considered by many observers to be the top favorite for the top scorer before the EURO. The striker has had an outstanding season at Inter Milan and is playing for one of the title favorites in Belgium. In the group stage, the striker lived up to the early praise with three goals.
Lukaku is tied with Cristiano Ronaldo, Patrik Schick and Georginio Wijnaldum at the top of the top scorers list. CR7 and the Leverkusen Bundesliga professional from the Czech Republic still have the chance in their last group games on Wednesday and Tuesday to set themselves apart from the Belgian and the Dutch before the start of the knockout games. Lukaku, meanwhile, scored two goals against Finland on Monday, the first not being recognized because of a minimal offside position. With his regular goal to 2-0, the 28-year-old even achieved something historic.
A penchant for a double pack
As only the sixth player in football history, the most valuable player of the past Serie A season reached the mark of at least five goals each at European championships and world championships. The man from Antwerp scored a goal at the 2014 World Cup, four years later in Russia he tied two double packs right at the start. In addition, there are two goals at EURO 2016 against Ireland and now the three goals from the tournament so far. Among the players who succeeded in doing this before Lukaku is Thierry Henry, a current Belgian assistant coach.
