After Loïc Badé and Kamaldeen Sulemana, new recruit for the Rennais Stadium. The Breton club formalized, Tuesday July 20, 2021, the arrival of Birger Meling, 26-year-old Norwegian and left-back. He signed a three-year contract.
He is no stranger to Ligue 1, since he has just spent a rather successful season at Nîmes Olympique, during which he scored two goals and delivered three assists, including one against Stade Rennais on September 13, 2020 .
Double Norwegian champion
Originally from Stavanger in southwestern Norway, he was trained in his hometown club Viking FK, where he remained for 13 years. He turned pro in 2014 by joining Stabæk Fotball. In 2017, he was recruited by Rosenborg BK, his country’s most successful club, with which he won two Norwegian league titles.
In 2020, he joined the Crocs. Despite his good season, he can not prevent a descent in Ligue 2 of his club.
Birger Meling aims for the top spots
“Each time we watched the Nîmes matches, each time he emerged as a strong element of their team,” said Florian Maurice, technical director of Stade Rennais.

The Norwegian will be in the group that will play in Spain, in Getafe in a friendly match, this Wednesday, July 21.
