The fire that was detected on Saturday in a area near the Talave reservoir, in Liétor, and that until now has calcined 2,500 hectares of pine, has remained checked this afternoon, as explained to the SER Ramon Garcia, Mayor of Hellín, the town that concentrates most of the burned area.
The fire was detected shortly after two in the afternoon on Saturday and since then they have intervened in the extinction tasks 105 media -20 of them aerial- and more than 500 people, among them 167 members of the UME that, due to the good evolution of the fire, they were leaving after four this afternoon.
The heat and the strong gusts of wind, together with the orography of the terrain, yesterday complicated the tasks of extinguishing a fire that generated a huge column of smoke, visible for dozens of kilometers, which forced the evacuation of several farmhouses confine the hellish districts of Isso and Mingogil to the risk of smoke inhalation.
The districts of Isso and Mingogil, unconfined
As explained in the SER by the general director of the Natural Environment of Castilla-La Mancha, Félix Romero, the inhabitants of Isso were able to leave their houses this morning and this noon, thanks to the stabilization of the fire, the district of Mingogil will be disconfined.
Julia Chumillas, a neighbor of Isso, has indicated that the flames were just over a kilometer from the urban area and that yesterday all the acts of the patron saint festivities were suspended in honor of Santiago Apóstol. The district too closed all its catering establishments.
The fire too keeps cut the CM-412 as it passes through the area. Due to its size, it is the most serious fire in Castilla-La Mancha so far this summer. The province of Albacete was yesterday in extreme fire risk for temperatures close to 40 degrees.
The flames have not caused personal injury and you only have to regret some material damage in agricultural crops of the area. Nor has it affected the participants of a children’s camp located in Férez, which ended today and which has been guaranteed, at all times, the necessary supplies.
Fire in Tobarra
On Tobarra, also in the province of Albacete, another fire detected shortly before noon yesterday in the place ‘Casa Gurugú’ has so far devastated some 400 hectares, mostly agricultural area. So far they have intervened in the area 58 media and 240 people.
