  • “It turns out that Lidia Staroń, as a candidate for the Ombudsman, captivated the Confederates with the fact that … she did not come to their debate of candidates for the Ombudsman” – wrote Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, MP from the Left, on Twitter
  • According to the member of the Confederation, Robert Winnicki, Marcin Więcek “(…) in matters significant from a conservative point of view, he spoke of banalities about respecting the law, and in left-wing subjects he showed activism”. He assessed the risk of “Bodnar II” as “quite serious”

The deputies – unlike in previous voting on the election of the Ombudsman in this term of the Sejm – voted jointly on both nominated candidates, and not in alphabetical order.

Candidature senator Staroń was submitted by the PiS club, Marcin Wiącek was put forward as a joint candidate by the clubs KO, KP-PSL and Lewica, the clubs of Poland 2050 and Polskie Sprawy, non-attached MPs, the agreement was also signed by MPs of the Agreement.

231 MPs supported the candidacy of Staroń, and 222 MPs supported its opponent, Marcin Wiącek. Nine MPs from the PiS club voted for Wiącek, but it was the Confederation MPs who decided that it was Lidia Staroń who became the new ombudsman.

Lidia Staroń elected by the Sejm as the Ombudsman. “With a big heart and devotion to people”

The selection is widely commented on on social media. As announced by the chairman of the Left, Krzysztof Gawkowski, in the Senate, Lewica will not support Lidia Staroń. “Ombudsman should be a social activist and seek understanding across divisions! Ms Staroń is the antithesis of such an attitude! “- added Gawkowski.

“Prof. Wiącek came to our debate. He was very efficient. In matters important from a conservative point of view, he spoke of banalities about respecting the law, and in left-wing topics, he showed activism. Bodnar II’s risk was serious. Senator Staroń’s answers were better, very unambiguous” – he wrote Robert Winnicki, member of the Confederation, in turn.

“The Civic Coalition and the other parties of the democratic opposition voted 100% for Prof. M. Wiącek. Lidia Staroń was elected, among others, by the votes of the Confederation and Kukiz. PiS without 9 votes Gowin. Now the Senate and the black scenario – no Ombudsman” – stated Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz.

The floor was also taken by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Błażej Poboży. The politician responded to the comment of Kamil Dziubka, the journalist of Onet, who noted that “the Seym has just elected a man without legal education as the Ombudsman.”

“But with a great heart and devotion to people” – retorted Poboży.

“What kind of politician is he and what kind of man, MP Bartłomiej Wróblewski shows the voting for the Commissioner for Human Rights. He abstained from voting in his case, and now he supported Ms Senator Staroń, who did not support MP Wróblewski in the Senate” – commented Anna Kwiecień, PiS MP. referring to previous unsuccessful attempts to elect the Ombudsman.

Choice of the Commissioner. The opposition criticizes the Confederation

“It turns out that Lidia Staroń, as a candidate for the Ombudsman, captivated the Confederates with the fact that … she did not come to their debate of the candidates for the Ombudsman Well, no surprise – for the extreme right, an ideal spokesman is an absent spokesman” – wrote Agnieszka Dziemianowicz on Twitter -Bąk, MP from the Left.

“Konfederacja and Kukiz’15 supported the government’s Lidia Staroń on the Ombudsman and that was enough to bury Wiącek’s candidacy. The lost vote on the Ombudsman shows what a pipe dream the idea of a technical government was,” said Maciej Gdula from the Left.

A similar entry was posted on the profile of the Polish People’s Party. “The Confederation invites Lidia Staroń, candidate for the Ombudsman, to the Confederation’s debate on the vision of the Ombudsman Lidia Staroń. Lidia Staroń rejects the Confederation’s invitation. The Confederation votes for Lidia Staroń. Curtain” – we read.

“The next time the Confederation organizes a debate of the candidates, it is better to ignore them. Staroń did so and got their votes deciding on the election to the Ombudsman. Prof. Wiącek treated them seriously, and as you can see – wrongly” – wrote Katarzyna Lubnauer.
